Tuba
The tuba is a wind instrument with 4 or 5 valves and belongs to the brass family of instruments of the symphonic orchestra. It has a wide conical tube, a broad bell and a mouthpiece in the shape of a cup. It is characterised by its large size and its deep sound. Playing of the tuba necessitates strong lungs, due to its size, as it is constantly being filled with air.
The first tubas were made during the 1830s in Berlin and since then have appeared in a variety of shapes and sizes.
They are used both in symphonic orchestras and in military bands.
The study of the tuba is recognised by the State and affords its students a Certificate and Diploma. Duration of tuition is 7 years for the Certificate and the Diploma or 9 years for the Diploma, if a Certificate is previously obtained.
The classes, specifically, are as follows:

The student may directly obtain a Diploma in the fourth year of the Advanced Class or opt for the Certificate first in the third year of the Advanced class and a Diploma two years later.
