Clarinet
The clarinet is a wind musical instrument. In its modern form it appeared in the 19th century.
The clarinet today holds a fundamental position in the symphonic orchestra and belongs to the category of woodwinds.
It had a long cylindrical shape, and six basic holes are opened on the anterior side of its body and one on the posterior.
Furthermore, the clarinet contains a series of metal keys which cover or reveal other openings in its body. The sound of the clarinet originates from the vibrating reed which is located in the mouthpiece, at the top of the instrument, held in place by the ligature.
The timbre of the instrument depends to a large extent on both the artfulness of the player and the quality of the material it is made of. The thickness of the reed used also influences the timbre, but mainly the ease of playing.
The clarinet is also used in Jazz orchestras.
In Greece, and in many Balkan countries, it is considered one of the fundamental instruments of traditional music.
The study of the clarinet is recognised by the State and affords its students a Certificate and Diploma. Duration of tuition is 8 years for the Certificate and the Diploma or 10 years for the Diploma, if a Certificate is previously obtained.
The classes, specifically, are as follows:
