Percussion
The percussion instruments comprise a large family of musical instruments, which produce sound and are classified as either idiophones, membranophones or chordophones. The sound is created by percussion made with the hands, with implements, friction, etc. They are also classified depending on their usage and the determination of tonic sharpness.
With their use in music the dynamic is fortified and the rhythm of the musical piece is underlined.

Percussion instruments are:
- The classical percussion instruments of the orchestra (drum, cymbals, xylophone, gran cassa or bass drum, triangle and many others, which are used depending on the circumstance)
- The traditional percussion instruments which vary depending on geographic location (toubeleki, defi, bedir, daouli, daires, etc.)
- Modern percussion instruments (drums, etc.)
The study of the classical percussion instruments is recognised by the State since 1987 and affords its students a Certificate and Diploma. Duration of tuition is 6 to 14 years.
The classes, specifically, are as follows:
- Elementary (1-2 years)
- Lower (1-2 years)
- Intermediate (2-4 years)
- Advanced (2-6 years)
