Violin
The body of the violin consists of two concave surfaces made from hard wood (maple) and a spruce top, or soundboard, which is made from soft wood (pine or fir).
The violin’s neck is constructed from maple wood and ends in a pegbox into which holes are opened to insert the keys.
The bow of the violin is an arc on which 150-200 horse hairs are strung, rubbed with rosin in order to better grip the chords.
The chords were initially made from animal intestines and later from copper and steel.
The violin has an impressive tone colour and when all the violins of an orchestra play together they produce a varying sound, full and rich.
There are many musical works for violin and orchestra, with the violin playing the protagonistic role.
The violin often has an important part in Jazz pieces as well.
The study of the violin is recognised by the State and affords its students a Certificate and Diploma. Duration of tuition is 11 years for the Certificate and 12 or 13 years for the Diploma.

- Lower (3 years)
- Intermediate (3 years)
- Advanced (3 years for the Certificate and 4 for the Diploma)
The student may directly obtain a Diploma in the fourth year of the Advanced Class or opt for the Certificate first in the third year of the Advanced class and a Diploma two years later.
