History
A route of creation and contribution
The Attiko Conservatory of Music commenced its educational and artistic route located at 11 Vryaxidos Street, Pangrati, in the academic year 1966-1967, as a music school under the name Ioannis Christophilos Music School.
The Conservatory was one of the first music institutions to be recognised by the State, following the Athens Conservatory of Music, the National Conservatory, the Greek Conservatory and the Conservatory of the Piraeus Association.
The following year, the Conservatory received the title Athens Music School; and in 1974 it became a conservatory under the name Attiko Conservatory of Music and expanded to a second building located at 23 Eratosthenous Street in Pangrati, adding to its roster thirty more years of successful operation.
In January 2005 the Conservatory acquired its own new five-floor building in the old street Eratosthenous 8 with modern facilities and suitable equipment, where until this day it comfortably accommodates its students. Additionally, over the course of the years, more branches have been opened in other areas of Athens and in the province.
The Attiko Conservatory of Music was founded and is directed by Ioannis Christophilos, a well-published composer and author of music educational methods, with the aspiration to always provide quality musical instruction and with the active participation of students and instructors in artistic life. The members of Ioannis Christophilos’ family, furthermore, are supporters and continuers of the philosophy and work that he personally initiated.
During the years of its operation, many renowned instructors offered and continue to offer their invaluable expertise and experience to the students, many of whom after graduation have won scholarships, competitions and continued their studies in foreign Universities; while others enjoy a successful career as soloists and members in large and notable orchestras, have founded their own cultural institutions or have creatively occupied themselves with music.
