Violoncello
The violoncello is a bass instrument developed in the 16th century. From the beginning of the 19th century it was fitted with an endpin or pike which allowed the instrument to rest on the ground, contained between the legs of the player.
The size of the contemporary violoncello was established by Stradivari, with a body length of 75-76 cm and a total height 125 cm.
The violoncello has a full sound and is therefore a popular solo instrument with many composers. During artful solos, the violoncello provides a flexible and rich sound.
There are many pieces composed for the violoncello and an orchestra with the violoncello as leading instrument. Its warm sound also adorns contemporary Greek music compositions.
he study of the violoncello is recognised by the State and affords its students a Certificate and Diploma. Duration of tuition is 10 years for the Certificate and 11 or 12 years for the Diploma, if a Certificate is previously obtained.

- Lower (2 years)
- Intermediate (3 years)
- Advanced (3 years for the Certificate and 4 for the Diploma)
The student may directly obtain a Diploma in the fourth year of the Advanced Class or opt for the Certificate first in the third year of the Advanced class and a Diploma two years later.
