Ioannis Christophilos
Ioannis Christophilos, founder and director of the Attiko Conservatory of Music, was born in Kollines of Mantineia province, South Arcadia in 1936.
He is a composer-conductor, Instructor of Composition and Higher Theoretical Classes and author of music educational publications. At the age of around 14 he began music studies in Tripolis, which he was led to by his great love of music.
Later, he studied Harmony at the National Conservatory of Music under Sotos Vassileiadis, Michalis Vourtsis and George Vokos, piano with Mario Laskarides and accordion with Stavros Palias.
He continued his musical studies in the Greek Conservatory of Music under Miltiades Koutougos, and under his instruction obtained Certificates in Counterpoint, the Fugue and Composition. Furthermore, he studied Instrumentation with Anastassios Remoundos and obtained a Certificate in Instrumentation and Ensemble (Band) Conducting.
In 1965 he commenced his struggle to found a musical institution. Creative and restless, he explored and battled, together with the unforgettable Tassos Emmanouil, president of the then-named “Friends of the Opera Association”, to found more state-recognised music schools, in defiance of the absence of relevant legislation of the times.
Ioannis Christophilos has served as President and General Secretary of the Panhellenic Association of Music Conservatory Founders, acting successfully in promoting the interests of music institutions and setting out integrated proposals for their correct founding, operation, and educational rankings.
Furthermore, he has never stopped producing his own artistic creations inspired by his great love of music.
His composing work consists of:
